Blue Wave Informatics is a limited liability partnership providing consultancy and training in Healthcare Informatics. We specialise in Medicines Information, and its various clinical applications, including Prescribing, Dispensing and Drug Administration and the Decision Support and Medication Databases needed to make these effective. In the UK we have a track record of activity in the development of medications databases for both primary and secondary care through the UK Clinical Products Reference Source (UKCPRS). We have also been involved in development of ETP (Electronic Transfer of Prescriptions) messages for NPfIT. Internationally we are active in HL7, especially in the Pharmacy Special Interest Group. We also run training courses on HL7 topics.
There are two of us with complementary skill sets:
"I was originally an Analyst/Programmer then moved into management and built First DataBank as a business from 1989 until Jan 2002. Along the way I built the main software toolkits used by both GP and Community Pharmacy systems for selection and checking of drugs for prescribing and dispensing. These are now used by over 50% of GP systems in the UK. During 2000 & 2001 I focused much more on the special requirements of secondary care systems. Since we started Blue Wave I have mainly worked on modelling and implementation."
"I was initially a Hospital Pharmacist where my experience includes initiating and managing a TPN/CIVAS service, and in Medicines Information. My Clinical Pharmacy specialties are Intensive and Cardiac Care, and Haematology. I also have Community Pharmacy experience including managing a number of Community Pharmacies, and as an Area Manager. I have also been LPC Secretary and undertaken IM&T/Clinical Governance work for local HA/PCG/PCT.
I joined First DataBank in 1994 where I was responsible for development of the database and particularly its extension to support secondary care.
In Blue Wave I bring the clinical grounding to what we do. Most of my work has been around business analysis for the projects we have undertaken."
We have a unique blend of clinical and IT expertise to help make products work safely and effectively. We can help at every stage from initial concept development through to final testing and user surveys.
In recent months we have been building HL7 training courses both in Pharmacy and HL7 generally.
