Julie James, MRPharmS

With skills in terminology and business analysis and information modeling, supported by 10 years as a practicing pharmacist, Julie brings the clinical perspective to Blue Wave.

Julie is a past co-chair of the Pharmacy Working Group of HL7 and continues to be its Vocabulary Facilitator.  She is also Vocabulary Facilitator for the Patient Safety Work Group.  She is a co-chair of the Snomed CT Pharmacy Special Interest Group in IHTSDO.

Julie is currently a part time post-graduate student, working on a thesis with the Centre for Health Informatics and Multi-Professional Education at University College London.

Before Blue Wave:

Julie joined First Databank in 1994 as a Pharmacist taking responsibility for development of the medicines database and ultimately for the entire editorial and data management process.  She worked with clinical system suppliers to resolve problems in constructing prescribing and dispensing systems.  She was also responsible for designing and executing a number of mapping projects between FDB identifiers and external coding systems including CTv3, and therefore built an understanding of clinical terminology beyond that just supporting medicines information.

Subsequent to working for FDB, she was employed on a part time fixed term contract by the NHSIA to provide informatics and pharmacy expertise to the UKCPRS project and to work on HL7.

Julie’s previous pharmacy clinical experience includes both Primary and Secondary Care, and covers initiating and managing a TPN/CIVAS service, Medicines Information and Clinical Pharmacy, (Intensive and Cardiac Care), managing a variety of Community Pharmacies, including one with a large addiction service input, LPC Secretarial work and IM&T/Clinical Governance work for local HA/PCG/PCT.
